Here is the latest. It is a SJ sized guitar w/ Carpathian Top (from Steve @ Colonial); Madagascar Rosewood Back & Sides (LMI Special grade), MadRose Fingerboard, bridge and headstock; Brazilian Rosewood rosette and binding on the body, fingerboard and headstock; Fossilized Walrus Ivory Saddle and Nut; Waverly tuners with snakewood buttons.

I am trying to decide whether or not to put a Greven mini sized Tortis pickguard on it. It matches the orange burst on the top perfectly. It is a real toss up.

Sorry about the fuzzy pics. I am going to have this guitar professionally photographed by a friend / client.

This was originally going to be my "sales piece" but now I have a couple of folks interested in it... So it is hard to say where this might end up.

The Madonna guitar is about done. I should have pics of that ready in about a week or so. I just need to glue the bridge on and that one is done too.

I reckon a clear scratchplate for sure. A tortis may detract.

It's a super nice and elegant guitar

I would vote for a clear guard too, it is too pretty to cover up.

Whats been used to Colour the Top ?

Wow! Brock, you surely do some clean work. What type of finish did you use? Did you finish it or have Tony do it? You obviously learned more from Frank than I did.

Thanks guys. Tony did the finish so it is cat urathane. He and I discussed the top coloring and I sent him a couple of pics of what I was thinking about and he took care of the rest. Tony ROCKS!!

Beautiful guitar Brock, I like the proportions a lot, body/peghead, rosette,
lower bridge location. I'm sure it sounds fantastic. A Tortis guard would look
good, if it's to be played by someone using a pick.
Who's Tony, does he just do the spraying or the buffing as well and how
much does he charge for a finish like this? Can you tell more about cat
urethane? Catalysed urethane? Is it a WB finish? It looks gorgeous on the
pics. Sorry about all the questions… I can have more! Ah yes, was the guitar
finished prior assembly, or after? Bolt-on or glued neck?

That's one very cool looking guitar, Brock! The subtle top burst is a gorgeous touch, is that an original idea? I've never seen one like that on a guitar. It looks like the edge-darkening glazing done on fine furniture although that's usually done on darker woods.

Is your "SJ-sized" indicative of the forum SJ plans? All this "SJ, Southern Jumbo, Super Jumbo, Small Jumbo" business is so very jumbled up & inprecise. Maybe we should call the small jumbo SJ a BJ - for "baby jumbo" At least name that would describe the basic shape & size.

Lovely and tasteful details too. Love that Madagascan Rosewood ... gotta get me some - after I rob a bank!

Thanks. The "SJ" -- or small jumbo in this case is based off a set of plans I got from Frank Finocchio -- a style he calls Prima.

The guitar was finished by Tony Ferguson in Michigan. Lance turned me on to him and he is just fantastic. We discussed the ideas and he took care of the rest. I just finish sanded it out and cleaned it up with steel wool and he did the entire finish soup to nuts. Tony is the best. He uses a Catalyzed Urethane finish it has a deep rich gloss and I don't think it seems to have any more damping qualities than Nitro... (at least I can't hear it if it does.)

Admittedly I am a freak about the order of construction. I USUALLY have my gutiars with the necks bolted on, fingerboards glued down ... and in this case, pre fretted. I do this so I can get the fb absolutely dead flat while the guitar is in the white. I am SUCH a klutz and I have a huge paranoia about working on brand new guitars with the finish on.
